The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will present the draft of the new National Telecom Policy, 2018 (NTP, 2018), before the cabinet in April 2018. Further, the DoT will soon make the draft available for public consultation. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released its recommendations for the government’s proposed NTP, 2018. According to the recommendations, TRAI has suggested a deadline of 2019 for the simplification of licensing and regulatory frameworks. TRAI has also supported the industry demand for rationalisation of taxes and levies in the sector.
