As of December 31, 2017, the Indian shipping industry had a fleet of 1,372 vessels of 12.35 million gross tonnage (GT) and 18.79 million deadweight tonnage (DWT). Of the total vessels, 929 were coastal vessels with a tonnage of 1.47 million GT (1.61 million DWT) and 443 were overseas vessels of 10.88 million GT (17.18 million DWT).
