Airtel signs agreement to provide mobile services in 2,100 villages and national highways in north eastern states with DoT and USOF

Bharti Airtel has signed an agreement with the Department of Telecommunications and the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) to provide mobile services in about 2,100 uncovered villages and national highways in the north-eastern states of Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh. Under the agreement, Airtel will set up over 2,000 mobile towers and sites in unconnected pockets of the region and deliver telecom connectivity in the next 18 months. Further, the USOF will invest around Rs 16.1 billion to support Airtel in executing the project.
