AIIB approves $335 million loan for Bangalore metro

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a $335 million loan for the Bangalore Metro Rail Project, Reach 6 (R6), AIIB’s first metro project. The 100 per cent electric metro project is also AIIB’s first joint financing partnership with EIB, which is also the project’s lead financier with 500 million euros in funding. R6 is a key part of Phase II of the Bangalore Metro Rail Project and a key component of the future rail link to Bengaluru airport. Operations will be entirely electric, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping mitigate climate change effects.
