The government is working on formulating cybersecurity standards for devices such as set-top boxes, mobile phones and internet of things devices, and is likely to come out with a report before March 2018. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has also released a white paper on a data protection framework. The paper has suggested an approach towards data protection in India, keeping in mind the fact that individual privacy is a fundamental right, only limited by reasonable restrictions. The government has sought public comments till December 31, 2017, on the white paper, which is also aimed at securing digital transactions and addressing customer and privacy protection issues.
