The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) has notified a hike of 9.33 per cent in retail supply tariffs for 2017-18. The consolidated revenue gap (deficit) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) was approved at Rs 25.22 billion as opposed to the utility’s proposal of Rs 115.75 billion. The tariff order, which will be implemented retrospectively from April 2017, will result in a tariff hike of 7-12 per cent for domestic consumers and 8.5-10 per cent for industrial consumers, though the latter will be subsidised by the state government to ensure a fixed tariff of Rs 5 per unit from November 1, 2017.
