Government working on telecom projects worth Rs 1.3 trillion

DoT has stated that the government is working on telecom projects worth Rs 1.3 trillion, which will result in the growth of telecom infrastructure in the country in two to three years. Further, the government stated that around 80,000 village panchayats have started broadband services under the BharatNet project and by December 2017, 100,000 panchayats are expected to be covered under the project. Meanwhile, the Telecom Commission has recently approved several projects for enhancing telecom connectivity in about 8,600 villages in the Northeast, undersea cable connectivity for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, a revised communications project for the defence services, increasing connectivity in rural areas and the revised Network for Spectrum project.
