The Southern Railway has proposed the development of a waste-to-energy plant near the Chennai Central Railway Station in Tamil Nadu. The plant will have the capacity to treat 1.5 million tonnes of waste and generate 229 units of electricity daily. The facility will process waste generated by stations and railway establishments at the railway station, and the areas of Madras Moore Market Complex, Egmore and Basin Bridge. Reportedly, the railway authorities have finalised a Delhi-based contractor for executing the project.
