Trail runs have been conducted for specific stretches of the metro rail projects being implemented in Kochi, Kerala, and Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Kochi Metro Rail Limited has successfully conducted trial runs on the Palarivattom-Maharaja College stretch under Phase I of the Kochi metro rail project. The stretch, which is expected to be operational by September 2017, involves the development of a 36.78 km long metro rail network at an investment of Rs 71.37 billion. Meanwhile, trial runs have also been conducted on the 4.5 km long Little Mount-AG-DMS stretch under Phase I of the Chennai metro rail project. Though the trial runs have commenced, signalling and electrification works are currently under way on this section.
