Networks of state-run operators witness malware attacks

State-run telecom operators Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) recently witnessed malware attacks on their networks. However, the two operators had taken the necessary action to reconfigure the affected modems. Meanwhile, BSNL has stated that it is undertaking an investment of Rs 1 billion to strengthen its broadband network by installing a foolproof cyber security infrastructure. According to BSNL, the first phase of the programme, which entailed an investment of around Rs 0.5 billion, has already been completed, while the second phase is expected to be completed by end-August 2017.
