Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) in Kerala has proposed the development of a bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor in the city. As per the proposal, the Edapally-Muthakunnam stretch, spanning a length of 25 km, will be converted into a BRT corridor. Under this, electric buses will be plied on both sides of the road, while other vehicular traffic will be allowed to pass through the middle. The project will be developed on the land previously acquired for expanding NH-17. The project proposal will now be submitted by KMRL to the state government for approval.
