The national plant load factor (PLF) registered a decline from 62.24 per cent in 2015-16 to 59.88 per cent in 2016-17. Across the central, state and private sectors, the PLF has been declining since 2011-12.

The total installed power generation capacity stood at 326,848.54 MW as of March 2017. Thermal capacity had a share of 67 per cent followed by renewable, hydel and nuclear. In terms of sectors, the private sector dominated with a 44 per cent share.
