MoCA grants in-principle approval for Jewar airport

The MoCA has granted in-principle approval for the development of the Jewar greenfield airport in Uttar Pradesh. The airport will be located 72 km from the existing Delhi airport and will be developed in phases on a public-private partnership basis with the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) being the implementing agency. YEIDA has notified 3,000 hectares of land for the project and has identified nine villages that will have to be acquired for Phase I at an estimated cost of Rs 60 billion. Besides, the development of one runway will be undertaken under Phase I and three more runways will be developed in subsequent phases. The airport is expected to cater to 30-50 mppa and will entail an investment of Rs 150 billion-Rs 200 billion.
