BPCL reassessing plans for the proposed Allahabad refinery

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is reassessing its plan to build a refinery in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. The land required for the project is already available with BPCL and it has begun erecting boundaries around it. The Allahabad refinery will have a capacity of at least 12 million tonnes (mt). BPCL had, many years earlier, selected Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh as the original site for the refinery, which was then planned as a joint venture (JV) with Shell, but the project could not be implemented. Since then, the location has been shifted to Allahabad, and BPCL will now commission the project on its own.
