The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has allowed licensed cooperative banks, that are permitted to install ATMs and issue debit cards, to issue prepaid payment instruments like mobile wallets for payments up to Rs 10,000. However, RBI has stated that the services are subject to the guidelines prescribed by its Department of Payment and Settlement Systems from time to time.
