CCI approves proposed merger of Bharti Airtel and Telenor India

The CCI has approved the proposed merger of Bharti Airtel and Telenor India. Earlier, Airtel had received approvals from SEBI, the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange for its proposed merger with Telenor India. Further, the two companies had also filed a joint application before the New Delhi bench of the National Company Law Tribunal for the approval of the proposed merger. In February 2017, Bharti Airtel had entered into an agreement with Telenor South Asia Investments Pte to acquire Telenor India’s operations in seven circles – Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh (East), Uttar Pradesh (West) and Assam. The proposed acquisition will include the transfer of all assets and customers of Telenor India.
