MoRTH to issue note for PIB approval for Bharat Mala project soon

The MoRTH is likely to issue a note to the Public Investment Board to seek approval for the Bharat Mala road project soon. The project will be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 10,000 billion and will subsume unfinished parts of the National Highways Development Programme (NHDP) while also focusing on new initiatives like the creation of economic corridors, the development of border and international connectivity roads, coastal and port connectivity roads and other corridors. Phase I of the project, which involves the construction of 29,000 km of highway network, including economic corridor schemes, coastal and other roads, will be carried out at an estimated cost of Rs 5,350 billion. Meanwhile, a blueprint of the Bharat Mala project has already been finalised and preparation of detailed project reports is in progress.
