As of April 30, 2017, the Indian shipping industry has a fleet of 1,320 vessels of 11.69 million gross registered tonnage (GRT) and 17.49 million deadweight tonnage (DWT). Of the total vessels, 910 are coastal vessels with a tonnage of 1.51 million GRT (1.69 million DWT) and 410 overseas vessels of 10.18 million GT (15.8 million DWT). During the month of April 2017, two coastal vessels were added to the fleet. In addition, five overseas vessels of 0.14 million GRT were added to the overall fleet.
