The government is looking to invest about Rs 300 billion for the expansion of the country’s liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production and distribution network, in the next three years. A record 34.5 million LPG connections were given during 2016-17, including 22 million free connections to poor households. Increasing LPG coverage is a part of the government’s plan to curb the use of polluting firewood. Also, 10,000 new LPG distributors are planned to be added, of which 4,600 have already been appointed.
