Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has commissioned five out of nine units under the Kochi Integrated Refinery Expansion Project (IREP), Phase III. The project includes the development of a new crude distillation unit with a capacity of 10.5 million tonnes (mt), a diesel hydrotreater unit and a vacuum gas oil hydrotreating unit to remove sulphur from fuels such as diesel and petrol. Other units of the IREP for naphtha hydrotreatment and isomerisation will be completed in the next two to three months. Overall, the Kochi refinery will reach its full capacity of 15.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) by March 2019.
