Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Powergrid) has commissioned Pole I of the ±800 kV Champa-Kurukshetra high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system. Along with the commercial operation of Pole I, the company has also commissioned 2,576 ckt. km of HVDC transmission lines. Executed at cost of Rs 63 billion, the project will enable the transfer of power from generation projects in Chhattisgarh to demand centres in the northern region. Pole II of 1,500 MW capacity is expected to be commissioned in June 2017.
