The New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has inaugurated a waste-to-energy plant under the Narela Bawana municipal solid waste management project. The plant has the capacity to treat 2,000 tonnes of waste per day, using two combustors. The waste will be processed to generate 24 MW of power, which will be sold at a tariff of Rs 7.03 per kWh. At present, the plant has been connected to the grid and commercial operations have commenced. The project entailed a cost of Rs 6.5 billion and has been developed under the PPP model. For this, NDMC collaborated with Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited through its special purpose vehicle (SPV), Delhi MSW Solutions Limited.
