Major ports handled 648 mt of cargo in 2016-17

During 2016-17, Indian major ports handled 647.63 million tonnes (mt) of cargo traffic, compared to 606.46 mt in 2015-16, registering an increase of 6.79 per cent. Kandla port handled the maximum traffic at 105.44 mt, followed by Paradip port (88.95 mt) and Mumbai port (63.05 mt). In terms of growth, Mormugao port reported the maximum increase (59.7 per cent), followed by Paradip port (16.45 per cent) and Cochin port (13.16 per cent).
