The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, Andhra Pradesh government, has issued an order to commence Phase I of the 24×7 drinking water supply project in Machilipatnam. The project works have been awarded to Vijayawada-based Velko Infratek Projects Private Limited. The scope of work involves the laying of water supply distribution lines spanning 200 km in length, the construction of four reservoirs at Valandapalem, Chilakalapudi, Rustumbada and the RTC Complex; and the sanctioning of 9,000 new domestic connections. The Rs 370 million project is being implemented under the centre’s Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation programme and is targeted to be completed within 18 months from the date of commencement.
