Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) in Kerala has conducted trial runs on the Aluva-Palarivattom stretch of Phase I of the Kochi Metro Rail Project. Test runs have been conducted at minimum speeds to assess parameters such as track conditions. The work on the 13 km stretch is expected to be completed by end-February 2017. Following this, KMRL is planning to conduct integrated trial runs on the stretch. After the test runs, safety inspection will be undertaken by the Commissioner of Railway Safety. Phase I of the Kochi Metro Rail Project involves development of a 36.78 km long metro rail network. It will connect the regions of Aluva and Petta in the city and will span 23 elevated stations. The project is expected to entail an investment of Rs 71.37 billion.
