Tariff plans of RJIL are in compliance with regulations, states TRAI

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said that Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited’s (RJIL) tariff plans are in compliance with its regulations and existing tariff orders. The response comes after the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal asked TRAI to submit its views on the pleas filed by Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular. Both operators had alleged that RJIL’s Happy New Year offer, which began on January 1, 2017, was an extension of the Welcome Offer and offered the same free voice and data services. However, TRAI has stated that the new offer is substantially different from the Welcome Offer as in the latter it had provided 4 GB of free data per day, while in the new one, free data was capped at 1 GB under the fair usage policy.
