MoS sends new version of the Inland Vessel Act for approval

The Ministry of Shipping (MoS) has reportedly sent the new version of the Inland Vessel Act to the Ministry of Law and Justice for approval. Once approved, it is expected to be sent to the cabinet for further approval. The original act addresses inland water limits, safety of vessels, employment, pollution control, insurance matters, etc. Under the new law, the government wants to introduce changes pertaining to the extension of inland water limits, the division of work between the central and state governments, and higher penalties and fines in the case of accidents and lapses.
