SBI partners with AISECT for nationwide roll-out of ETC

The State Bank of India (SBI) has partnered with a Bhopal-based skill development organisation, AISECT, for the roll-out of the electronic toll collection (ETC) project across the country. AISECT will also be responsible for the nationwide sale and recharge of SBI’s prepaid account FASTag through AISECT-SBI banking kiosks, which will be used for toll collection across national highways. Currently, the ETC facility is available on 370 toll plazas on national highways. SBI’s FASTag is a rechargeable tag that allows the automatic deduction of toll charges so as to allow people to pass through the toll plaza without waiting for a cash transaction. AISECT is planning to start the roll-out process soon and has decided to fix the cost of the SBI FASTag at Rs 150. An additional 10 per cent discount will be available to those who pay toll charges through the ETC mode. The National Payments Corporation of India will run this initiative and will be responsible for payment settlement between the various banks involved in the ETC project.
