The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) is aiming to double the number of operational airports in the country from the current 75 to 150 under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS). Besides, the government is also planning to increase airport capacity by expanding existing terminals, building new ones and developing greenfield airports. Meanwhile, the MoCA is planning to put in place a unified command of the Central Industrial Security Force for an integrated aviation security system for Indian airports instead of security being looked at on a airport by airport basis.
