Mos directs all major ports to implement RFID systems

The MoS has directed all major ports to implement the radio frequency identification (RFID) system at the ports by March 31, 2017. The implementation of the RFID system at major ports will eliminate the manual checking of documents at the port gate and allow real-time tracking of the movement of vehicles, men and materials. With introduction of the RFID system, the paper pass system currently in use will be scrapped. The new system will lead to the faster and more efficient movement of traffic across the gates leading to a reduction in congestion at the ports. Of the 12 major ports, the RFID system has already been commissioned at the Paradip and Mormugao ports.
