IWAI awards Haldia terminal contract to ITD Cementation

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has awarded a contract worth Rs 5.17 billion for the construction of a multimodal inland water transport terminal at Haldia, West Bengal to ITD Cementation India Limited. The IWAI expects 7.95 mtpa of cargo traffic at the Haldia terminal by 2020. The project will be executed on an EPC basis and is expected to be completed by August 2019. The multimodal terminal will have facilities such as berthing space for four vessels, a stockyard for storage, a belt conveyor system with fixed hoppers, a barge loader, shore protection works, ramps, parking areas and terminal buildings. The terminal will be developed as a part of the capacity augmentation of National Waterway-1 under the Jal Marg Vikas project, which involves the construction of three multimodal terminals with rail and road connectivity at Varanasi, Haldia and Sahibganj. The Jal Marg Vikas project, involving an investment of Rs 42 billion, is being undertaken with financial assistance from the World Bank.
