The terminal will be developed as a part of the capacity augmentation of National Waterway-1 under the Jal Marg Vikas project, which involves the construction of three multimodal terminals with rail and road connectivity at Varanasi, Haldia and Sahibganj. The Jal Marg Vikas project, involving an investment of Rs 42 billion, is being undertaken with financial assistance from the World Bank.
