Foundation stone laid for Pune Metro Rail Project, Phase I

The foundation stone for Phase I of the Pune metro rail project in Maharashtra has been laid. At present, the preliminary survey work for the project is being undertaken. The actual construction work is likely to commence by mid-2017. Phase I of the Pune metro project involves the development of a 31.48 km long metro rail network. It comprises two corridors: Corridor 1 – Pimpri-Chinchwad (Nigdi)-Swargate via Agriculture College and Corridor 2 -Vanaz-Ramwadi via Deccan Gymkhana, Yerawada. In addition, the state government is planning to include the Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi stretch as Corridor 3 under the project. Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited is undertaking the construction work at an investment of Rs 114.2 billion.
