APGenco ties up with CIL for Raniganj coal

Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGenco) has tied up with Coal India Limited (CIL) for substituting coal imports (used for blending) with coal from the Raniganj coalfields (high energy value of around 6,100 kCal and low ash content) at its 1,600 MW Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah thermal power plant at Krishnapatnam. Under the arrangement, the genco will substitute coal imports with 1 mt of coal from Eastern Coalfields Limited’s Raniganj coalfields. Currently, APGenco procures 5 mt of coal from Mahanadi Coalfields Limited and imports the rest. The new arrangement is likely to bring down the genco’s fuel cost and is also a part of CIL’s effort to market coal from Raniganj.
