AERA to adopt hybrid-till model

The Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) has reportedly started the adoption of hybrid till approach for computing airport fees and will hold discussions with airlines and airport operators soon seeking their views. The move is in line with the recommendations of the National Civil Aviation Policy, 2016 that calls for adopting a hybrid till model for all airports, under which 30 per cent of the airport operator’s non-aeronautical revenue will be utilised to subsidise airport costs. Presently, a single-till model is used to determine aeronautical charges at 20 major airports across the country, including Kolkata and Chennai. Meanwhile, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports follow a shared till model.
