GVMC avails $245 million ADB loan for modernisation of water supply network

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) in Andhra Pradesh has availed of a $245 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor Development Programme. The sanctioned amount will be utilised for various projects including modernisation of the city’s water supply network to ensure 24×7 supply to both household and industrial users. Moreover, the civic agency is also planning to use the loan to undertake measures to reduce non-revenue water (NRW) losses and supply high quality, pressurised water to the city. At present, ADB has estimated that the NRW is about 50 per cent of the total water supplied, owing to the lack of consumption meters in the city.
