AAI has granted in-principle approval for the proposed site at Purandar for the greenfield New Pune International Airport. Earlier, the state government had been considering Khed taluka for the airport, but later the site shifted to Purandar tehsil due to greater availability of land. The airport is expected to have two runways and is likely to be developed on a PPP basis with the Maharashtra Airport Development Company.
