Maharashtra government approves Mumbai-Pune expressway augmentation project

The Maharashtra government has given its nod to the Mumbai-Pune expressway expansion and has sanctioned Rs 32.15 billion for the project. Under the expansion plan, aimed at cutting down overall travel time by 20 minutes, a new 12 km bypass with two tunnels and two viaducts will be added to the existing expressway between the Khopoli exit and Kusgaon. Besides, an eight-lane elevated road will be constructed on the expressway, between Khalapur Food Mall and Khopoli. The total cost of the project is Rs 70 billion.
