The Steering Committee of Greenfield Airports has recommended in-principle approval to three projects in Andhra Pradesh and site clearance for the Kothagudem project in Telangana. The three projects being considered in Andhra Pradesh are at Bhogapuram, Dagadarthi (Nellore) and Orvakal (Kurnool). The new international airport at Bhogapuram will be developed by the state government in the public-private partnership (PPP) mode at an estimated cost of Rs 22 billion to cater to 6.3 million passengers per annum in the initial phase. Meanwhile, the other two airports in the state will be developed as domestic no-frills airports at an estimated cost of Rs 0.88 billion each. While the Dagadarthi project will be developed on a PPP basis, the Orvakal project will be developed by the state government.
