Foundation stone laid for Phase I of the Kanpur metro rail project

The Uttar Pradesh government has laid the foundation stone for the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, Phase I. The 32 km long metro rail system will be developed at an investment of Rs 137.21 billion. The project will consist of two corridors – Corridor 1, from IIT-Naubasta via the Jhakarkati bus terminal, which will have a total length of 23 km; and Corridor 2, from the Agricultural University to Barra-8 with a total length of 9 km. A total of 31 stations will be constructed under Phase I of the metro project. Of these, 19 stations will be elevated and the remaining 12 will be underground.
