The Maharashtra government is planning to operationalise the greenfield Shirdi airport by October 2016. While more than 95 per cent of the work is complete, the airport is awaiting an aerodrome licence from the DGCA. For Phase II of the project, the Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation will take up development work on its own instead of opting for the public-private partnership (PPP) route.
