The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank have signed a $80 million loan agreement for the North Eastern Region Capital Cities Development Investment Programme. The funds will be utilised for providing infrastructure facilities such as water supply, solid waste management and sanitation in Agartala and Aizawl. The loan is the third tranche of a $200 million financing facility under the project and has a term of 20 years. Apart from augmenting infrastructure in the two cities, the funds will also be utilised for undertaking urban reforms to benefit nearly 1 million citizens.
