TRAI to penalise Vodafone and RCOM for violating differential pricing norms

TRAI is likely to penalise Vodafone India and Reliance Communications (RCOM) for violating the differential pricing norms that were released in February 2016. TRAI will reportedly impose a ban on the offers given by Vodafone and RCOM wherein their customers can access unlimited movies from online content portal Hungama. According to TRAI, this is in violation of the differential pricing norms that prohibited telecom service operators from giving undue advantage to any single content provider. As per the rules, the violation can attract a penalty of Rs 50,000 per day for operators, subject to a maximum of Rs 5 million.
