The National Green Tribunal has directed Alaknanda Hydro Power Company Limited to pay compensation to the tune of Rs 92.6 million for dumping muck around its 330 MW Srinagar hydroelectric project (HEP) without proper precautionary measures. This is following a plea from resident organisations in Uttarakhand seeking compensation for the damage to life and property owing to debris from the HEP during the Uttarkhand flood in June 2013.
