The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) granted approval for the redevelopment of Berth Nos. 8 and 9 and barge berths at Mormugao port on August 31, 2016. The project, estimated to cost Rs 1.14 billion, will be implemented on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis. It is expected to be completed in 36 months from the date of award of the concession. The project envisages the reconstruction of three old berths and the replacement of 38-year-old equipment by creating facilities for handling a variety of cargo like iron ore, bauxite, gypsum, limestone, fertilisers, steel coils and other general cargo and catering to ships of up to 185,000 deadweight tonnage. The project will create an incremental capacity of 6.22 mtpa.
