Trial runs on the ITO-Kashmere Gate stretch (Corridor 3) of the Delhi Metro Project, Phase III, commenced on August 10, 2016. The 5.17 km stretch is expected to commence operations by November 2016 marking the commissioning of the entire corridor. During the trial runs, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will also test the signaling system, train brakes, track system and overhead electrification system. Meanwhile, trial runs on the IGI Airport Terminal 1-Janakpuri section (Corridor 2) and the Delhi Cantonment-Moti Bagh stretch (Corridor 1) are likely to be conducted in November 2016, and for the Kalindi Kunj-Botanical Garden stretch (Corridor 1) in October 2016. However, the complete launch of the corridors has been delayed due to land acquisition issues. Phase III involves the development of a 139.4 km long metro rail network at an investment of Rs 352.42 billion.
