Stage II forest clearance deferred for Navi Mumbai airport

The Forest Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has deferred Stage II forest clearance for the Navi Mumbai International Airport due to deficiencies in the compensatory afforestation scheme. The project requires 250 hectares of forestland comprising dense mangroves. Besides, the City and Industrial Development Corporation also needs 22.5 hectares of forestland for rehabilitating project-affected persons, for which a separate clearance has been applied for.
