MoP issues direction to CEA on R&M for old TPPs

The MoP has directed the Central Electricity Authority to ensure that renovation and modernisation (R&M) expenditure undertaken for old thermal power plants (TPPs) does not exceed 50 per cent of their initial cost. Further, the ministry has stated that such old TPPs must be replaced with supercritical ones. This is likely to adversely affect companies that have already committed investment in the R&M of old TPPs.
