Four shipyards in Alang apply for inclusion in EU List

IRClass Systems and Solutions Private Limited, an entity promoted by the Indian Register of Shipping, has certified four ship recycling yards in Alang as “independent verifiers” in accordance with the requirements of the European Union [EU] Ship Recycling Regulation. The four yards that have met the standards set by the EU and the Hong Kong Convention are Priya Blue Industries, Shree Ram Vessel Scrap, R.L. Kalathia Ship Breaking and Leela Ship Recycling. These recycling yards are India’s first yards to be certified based on EU standards and have submitted their applications for inclusion in the EU-recognised yards list, which is expected to be released by December 2016. The recognition will allow these Indian yards to become a preferred option over others in neighbouring countries.
