Bhopal Municipal Corporation defers implementation of three BRT corridors

The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has deferred the plan for the implementation of three corridors of the Bhopal bus rapid transit (BRT) project owing to shortage of funds. The central government has refused to provide the remaining funds for the project which involves the development of a 44.15 km BRT corridor in Bhopal at an investment of Rs 3.56 billion. The project comprises four corridors: Bairagarh-Misrod (Corridor 1, 23 km), Roshapura-Outer Ring Road (Corridor 2, 13 km), Board Office-Raisen Road (Corridor 3, 2.94 km) and Bharat Talkies-Tajul Masjid (Corridor 4, 3.33 km). Of these, only the Bairagarh-Misrod pilot corridor has been commissioned, while work on the other stretches is yet to commence.
