Telecom companies may spend Rs 1 trillion on spectrum in next auction

Telcom companies are likely to spend Rs 1 trillion on buying spectrum across various bands in the next auction likely to be held in September 2016. The top three carriers – Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular – are likely to account for 55-60 per cent of the total spend, ahead of  RJIL’s entry into the sector.

Reliance Telecom Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Communications (RCOM), has decided to demerge its operations in five circles. These circles are Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal. The move is reportedly part of RCOM’s strategy towards consolidating its wireless business under one entity to be demerged at a later date and merged with Aircel, as per the ongoing discussions between the promoters of both companies.
